ACT TWO: THE TYRANT

Who is the sovereign? That has been the eternal question since the dawn of human government. The word itself is defined to mean "supreme ruler" and "possessing supreme or ultimate power". It is no secret affair that for much of human history, across all cultures and races, the sovereign existed within government. This as I have before discussed is the quintessential definition of a tyrant. Men were nothing but slaves in their own country, belonging to a family in the case of monarchies or a group of men in the case of the merchant republics. Let us disassemble this phenomenon and gaze at its inner parts.

Sovereignty and Power

In Act one, we established God as the undisputed Emperor. His will is law for all the universe. He wields both Sovereignty and Power. Sovereignty answers the question of who rules, while power answers the question of who governs. How these questions are answered, reveals something very central about any country. Every nation has a central idea from where its minor thoughts radiate. That central idea is expressed in how the question of sovereignty will be answered. How we set up and do government defines the nation. It should be clear too that ruling and governing are with regard to human government, supposed to be separate to ensure just government. Sovereignty and Power should not exist together. Only God, the Supreme Governor and Ruler of the Universe, can be trusted to accommodate both sovereignty and power. Why is this? I'll bring in a little of my Christianity here. Because humans are fallen creatures, born with tendencies to evil. Only perfect rightness can perform those two functions concurrently, a fact admitted by the American founders in their formulation of their country. Thus so writes James Madison:

But what is government itself, but the greatest of all reflections on human nature? If men were angels, no government would be necessary. If angels were to govern men, neither external nor internal controls on government would be necessary. - James Madison, Federalist No. 51

In Kenya, we have a constitution promulgated in 2010. I would have you know that a Constitution does not grant any rights, it merely enumerates self evident truths. Rights, as discussed in Act One, are granted by God. Our Constitution enumerates the eternal truth that it is the people, i.e the governed, who are sovereign. The ruler, yule wa kusema, is the people. In other words, the sovereign or the ruler is entirely excluded from the operations of government. This is the first check on tyranny, removing sovereignty from government. It follows then that the people rule but they do not govern. Governing is left to another set of persons called the government. And so ideally, a constitution is unnecessary, but because of fallen human nature, we have to enumerate self evident truths to this second set of persons that do the governing.

A constitution is the means by which the governed govern the government. It is a manifestation of the rulership of the rulers. The constitution itself is an expression of the sovereignty of the sovereign. To disregard and violate the constitution is in fact by that logic treason and worthy of death. Hence the phrase: Sic Semper Tyrannis, Thus Always to Tyrants.

A tyrant is someone who attempts to manufacture sovereignty within the operations of government. In simple words, they are attempting to forge themselves into a god for only God can unite sovereignty with government while sustaining justice. And this especially, God cannot allow. Sovereignty and Government, for justice to prevail, must remain separate on this side of eternity. These are tough new lessons we must all learn and proclaim to all corners of the Republic. The constitution is not just nice words to hoodwink the masses with an illusion of freedom.

So then, what happens when sovereignty is manufactured within Government? The people go to war.
