Apologetica Christos: 1st Disputation

Most excellent Theophilus, it is evident that at the very moment anyone insists on knowing the truth, there shall and always be opposition to such an endeavor. The trick then is to learn to love those who are confused in that manner, who out of ignorance oppose you, for of our Lord it is written He is a High Priest “who can have compassion on the ignorant, and on them that are out of the way” (Hebrews 5:2) The more horrible thing is that the further ahead you get, the more irritating it will be for the ones who retain no idea of what you’re doing. On this our Master had said, "They shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth God service." (John 16:2). They begin calling you all manner of interesting names and this is telling of the fact that they’ve never honestly investigated the matter for themselves. My dear friend, remember this for all your life, do not engage such wars, you cannot hope win. You will need to be quiet until you know who exactly you’re talking to. And when an honest investigator wants to know something, they’ll let you know. Avoid laying the hard things of God on the weak consciences of such people, "Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you." (Matthew 7:6) for they have the whole world behind them in their confusion and “strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil” (Hebrews 5:14) Since majority do not study for themselves or are yet to build capacity to do so, the further you go into the mysteries of God’s word, the more properly shall you join the club of the misunderstood. “be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves” (Matthew 10:16).

“Sin is the transgression of the law” (1 John 3:4) and “the wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23). Let us begin. The penalty for transgressing God’s law cannot change. There’s nothing anyone in the universe can do concerning that, not even God, because holiness demands holiness and anything else has to die. Justice demands it. God cannot change His nature. There’s got to be death. God surveyed the situation and saw that man has to die. The angels rushed to offer their lives to save man, but justice would not be satisfied even with endless angelic lives. Then Jesus, God’s dear Son, steps forward and offers Himself, but God refuses, why? Is it because divinity cannot die? The fairy tale taught today by many Churches in the name and place of the true atonement is that God would come and not have to die as God. That the sacrifice on the cross was merely a human sacrifice simply because a divine being cannot die.

This will be our question of investigation. The enemy of souls had thought himself brilliant in his stratagem when he caused man to sin. He reasoned that only by a substitutionary death could man be saved from eternal doom. Yet, only the death of an eternal life could span that bridge over eternal death for mankind to walk across, and God cannot die. But God is wiser than all “He taketh the wise in their own craftiness” (Job 5:13) and turned the tempter’s wisdom into foolishness for “the foolishness of fools is folly” (Proverbs 14:24). How God did it will be the subject of my next letter. Till then, the grace of our God Almighty and His beloved Christ and Son be with you.
